Ken Orton was born in Birmingham England, in January of 1951.
He studied at Birmingham and Manchester Colleges of Art. Later taught at Moseley School of Art in his home town, until he moved to Spain, where from 1979 until 1999, he was a professor in charge of the Centro de Arte de Joan Miro of the Baleares International School in Palma de Mallorca. He, now, resides in the Catskill Mountains of New York and the Gulf Coast of Florida.
In England, his original paintings are sold exclusively from Harrods of Knightsbridge, in London.
His paintings are based on his own photographs and whilst many may call these works photorealism, there is no real attempt to slavishly copy the photograph. Rather the photograph’s tonal dynamics, its field of focus and its specific momentary light condition are used as components in creating an energetic and engaging pictorial space.
