One of CGAF’s major initiatives has always been to support and encourage the next generation of artists. For nearly 25 years, the Coconut Grove Arts Festival has been a proud supporter of South Florida’s signature magnet high school, New World School of the Arts, by providing its students a unique opportunity to explore the life of a professional artist. Students create, present and sell their artwork to Arts Festival patrons for $100 with $50 going to the student and $50 to the school. This award winning partnership, developed by the late New World School of the Arts teacher Jim Hunter, has raised nearly $100,000 for the school. The terrific outcomes of this partnership is an authentic career experience for these talented students, invaluable scholarship funds for this outstanding school, and the opportunity for our patrons to purchase an incredible piece of very affordable art from what could possibly be the next Picasso or Cindy Sherman!
